Over the course of the last thirty years, many lives have been changed by a single coach here at Lewis-Palmer High school. Tony Ramunno, coaching legend of the football team, stepped down this year to focus on his teaching. With ten playoff visits and four quarter-final games under his belt, he has had a coaching career that will be hard to match.

For many people football is the greatest thing on earth. Anyone who has played high school football has that one memory that is just unforgettable, while coaches have tons of those memories.

“There are just so many when you’ve been in the game for so long. One of the more recent memories was in our 2011 season. We were playing the number one ranked Vista Ridge, and with about a left to go in the game, we were losing. We ended up driving the field and beat them with a last second touchdown,” Ramunno said.

Once someone has done something for a long time, it is always fun to look back on what they did and how much they enjoyed it. After thirty years of coaching, people all miss one thing or another that just made their job fun.

“I miss being around the football type of kid. That kid just likes to mix it up. I also miss my coaches; they were the best and most loyal friends to me,” Ramunno said.

It is sometimes impossible for someone to ever be truly “retired,” especially someone with a career in sports.

“I might return to coaching, but I just have to see how things go. I would love to coach more, but it could cost me my health,” Rumunno said.

Coach Ramunno also wanted to thank the school administration for making his coaching career possible.

“I feel fortunate that the administration stuck with me through thick and thin. In today’s world, people want instant winning. When we were switching districts so often, it was hard to keep up,” Ramunno said.
