An anonymous student has always been interested in animals and is currently taking two college courses through the school to learn about them. She has taken classes in the past and has been trying to volunteer at the zoo outside of class time.

“When you’re really little you’re always like, ‘I want to be a firefighter or a doctor or a vet.’ I have always wanted to be a vet, and I just kind of never outgrew that that whole phase. I’m interested in exotic medicine. So I’m thinking about going to college for exotic medicine, which is going to be long. I’m trying to get my foot in the door. I’ve been denied several opportunities at the zoo because of my age. I want to talk to the vets of the zoo, but they’re always busy, so I can’t. I don’t give up easily, so I’m going to keep trying to talk to the vets and talk to zookeepers and eventually apply for a job there. And I’ll just keep trying. Right now it’s two classes. It’s Horticulture and Design and Animal Behavior. We go to the zoo every Monday and Thursday. And we’re usually walking around the zoo, looking at exhibits and watching training demos. We work in the loft which is a little kids area, and we clean there and interact with guests and animals. They just don’t judge you like people do. They don’t care if you’re a or kid if you’re old they just love you for who you are because they’re always loyal.”
