ISIS poses new threat to our nation’s security

ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is an Islamic militant group that consists of members that once belonged to the terrorist group Al-Qaida. Very much like Al-Qaida, ISIS members are a part of the branch of Islam, Shiite. These take the Quran seriously, and they believe that those who do not believe in the teachings of Allah and Mohamed deserve to be killed by the hands of Muslims everywhere. However, many believe that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam and act on sheer brutality.

Whether or not religion is behind ISIS’s actions, we can all agree that nothing good can come when the black flag of ISIS is seen outside of any town. ISIS would capture villages, towns and even whole cities in Iraq.

ISIS is most famously known for recruiting by capturing people. However, ISIS also recruits on popular social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, which gets them a large group of recruits from around the world. With these new recruits they train them to go on “missions” that evolve terrorizing villages and towns.

The real question is whether or not ISIS poses a direct threat to our country. As ISIS continues to gain followers in the west, it is causing a greater threat for the US. As proof in Ottawa, Canada, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a member of ISIS, opened fire in the Parliament building. Also just recently ISIS captured the Syrian city of Raqqa, which holds a military base that contains military and chemical weapons. Rumors tell that ISIS plans on using a majority of the weapons on western countries like the US and cause attacks like the 9/11 attacks.

On September 11, 2001 in New York City, a two Boeing 747 crashed into the World Trade Center which caused mass terror across the country. This is when the war on terror to defend our freedom began.

The war on terror potentially ended on May 2, 2010 when Seal Team 6 infiltrated a compound that held the one responsible for the 9/11 attacks, Osama Bin Laden. Seal Team 6 eventually found their way to Bin Laden and ended his life. When the United States got the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden the country went into mass celebration. The families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks could not help but feel avenged. However, the war on terror would not end anytime soon, not if ISIS could help it.
