Are Volkswagen Cars bad for the environment and is the company a bunch of cheaters?

A popular car company among teens and adults is the German automobile company,Volkswagen. Established in 1937, Volkswagen has been under fire in recent news for cheating on emissions tests by installing software on over 11 million TDI clean diesel vehicles. An emission test measures the amount of chemicals coming from the car exhaust. Many people want Volkswagen to change this, many say it affects global warming and our Ozone layer.

Mac Hendrix, 9, is a car enthusiast. Hendrix’s love for cars is a passion and he wants to be a rally car driver when he is older.

“Personally, knowing about the scandal of Volkswagen cheating on emissions tests, a car is a car, as long as it runs and it has good standards, I’d buy it. To me, the eco system isn’t the most important topic and I still see potential in Volkswagen, but after this cheating scandal I just wouldn’t invest in Volkswagen, ” said Hendrix.

Customers who drive certain 2.0L, 4-cylinder TDI vehicles and who are affected by the cheating scandal are being offered a special package. This package is called the Volkswagen 2.0L TDI Goodwill Package. This will include a $500 Volkswagen prepaid Visa card, a $500 Volkswagen dealership card and a free 3-year 24 hour roadside assistance for your vehicle. This is all in attempt to earn back customers who have turned over to other car companies.

“I think Volkswagen is kissing up to the customers with gift cards. If they really want to make it up they need to fix their cars and emissions,” said Hendrix.

As many car companies are thriving throughout the United States, Volkswagen’s sales are falling drastically. In October sales of Volkswagen fell by 5.3%. Volkswagen also faced a 18 billion dollar fine if the problem was not fixed by November 20th.

Volkswagen recalled more than 2 million TDI clean diesel cars. The fine and sale drops may not seem like much, but for a multi billion dollar company, that means money lost.

“By this point, Volkswagen has cheated twice, I don’t see them fixing and recalling their cars by November 20th,”said Hendrix.

Should we be worried about other companies rigging emission tests? With Volkswagen partnered with many other companies, such as Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley and Audi, Volkswagen may be helping other partners cheat the emissions tests.

“Volkswagen owns many more companies such as Audi and Porsche and I could definitely see those other companies cheating, using the same software as Volkswagen,” said Hendrix.

Volkswagen has been been a very popular car company in around the world. Could we see this famous German automobile company declining in sales, or is this scandal making the car company more popular?
