Following the release of the iPhone 6, released in September 2014, Apple product users had been awaiting the iPhone 7. Now that it is finally here, the phone has seen a huge success.

Nearly 2 years after Apple’s last release of the iPhone 6, 6s and 6 Plus, the company officially announced the iPhone 7 on September 7, 2016 and it was available for preorder 2 days later. The phone was finally available in stores on September 16, 2016.

Within days, Apple released a statement saying that it had already sold all of the iPhone 7 Plus and Jet Black iPhone 7s in stock and has continued to have booming sales.

The iPhone 7 sees vast improvement from Apple’s previous releases. For example, there will be more advanced cameras, new color choices, a bigger screen, as well as other differences in battery life and storage. For example, the new base storage for the iPhones is 32G instead of the previous models allowing as low as 16G.

Emma Tillotson 9 recently purchased an iPhone 7 and is already noticing advancements from her old phone, which was an iPhone 5c.

“I love my new phone. I really enjoy the improvement on the battery life. That’s a big difference that I’ve seen because I can use it a lot more now than ever before. I used to come home from school and already be down to 20%, but now I get home and still have 70%,” Tillotson said.  

One of the more controversial changes made to the new phone was the removal of the headphone jack. In its place, Apple has produced EarPods with a Lightning Connector that plugs into the charger port, a Lightning Headphone Jack Adapter,and will soon be releasing Bluetooth earphones.

When asked her opinion on the headphone jack being removed, Tillotson said, “It’s actually not as inconvenient as I thought it would be. It comes with headphones that have the jack that plugs into the charger port so you can just use those headphones and it’s not that much of a bother along with an adapter to use with regular headphones.”

Another notable change that comes with the iPhone 7 is the camera quality. The new release has a six-element lense accompanied by a 7-megapixel resolution for its front camera, compared to the iPhone 6s, which had a five-element lense and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The biggest advantages to having the increase in megapixels makes cropping pictures easier and printed pictures have much better quality.

“There’s a huge difference between the camera quality of the other phones and my new phone. The iPhone 7 Plus also has a better camera than the regular iPhone 7, and I have the Plus so it’s even better. The camera quality is so great that it’s like looking at it in real life,” Tillotson said.

Altogether, the iPhone 7 and its improvements have been a huge success. Although some smartphone users were skeptical of the headphone jack being removed along with other advancements according to the early reviews, the reaction for the phone have been positive overall.
