After four long days, the Associated Press called the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. While the final state certification deadline is not until December 14th, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. is the projected winner of the election called by the Associated Press.

On November 7th, battleground state Pennsylvania was labeled as a victory for Biden as he led the state by about 37,000 votes. Because of this narrow projected victory, this allowed for Biden to reach 270 electoral votes. Closely following, Associated Press called Nevada creating a total of 290 electoral votes for Biden.

That same day, Biden delivered a victory speech to all of America. In this speech, he intended to spread several messages, including the unity of all Americans. Biden also pledged to work for all Americans.

“I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify,” Biden said, “I’ll work hard for those who didn’t vote for me as those who did.”

While Biden has been labeled the president-elect, Donald Trump is calling for recounts in multiple states. Each state has its own recount rules and regulations. For Trump to call a recount, he would have to pay depending on the margin of victory and whether or not it is small enough. 

Each state has different provisions regarding an automatic recount. For swing state Michigan, an automatic recount is only allowed if the margin is less than 2,000 votes. Because Biden led this state with over 145,000 votes. However, Trump and his campaign may still call for a recount if it is paid for per precinct.

While it is not likely that any states will undergo a recount, many protests calling for a recount are taking place in battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Michigan. Meanwhile, election officials in Philadelphia have been receiving death threats throughout the week of the election. 

For the time being, Joe Biden is the president-elect of the 2020 Presidential Election. This result will be official on December 14th at the latest.
