It’s no secret that the upcoming holiday, Valentine’s Day, has the ability to make people act crazy. While it causes some people in relationships to stress about finding the perfect gift and creating a romantic plan for a day spent with his or her special someone, it especially gives singles to stress about not having a “Valentine”. Occasionally, people can begin to acquire a hatred of Valentine’s Day; despising even the Valentine’s Day themed candy that seems to be overabundant in every store. However, why should a day focused on love be biased against people who are not currently involved with someone? Everyone should take advantage of the celebration of love and use it to appreciate all of their loved ones by spending quality time with family members and friends. Valentine’s Day can be whatever one makes it, so why not simply make it a fun day to celebrate life, love, laughter, and friends. Some suggestions for Valentine’s Day activities for people who would be considered single are below.
- Organize a movie night
Whether the decision is to venture out to a local theatre to see the latest romantic comedy with buddies or to host a movie night at a friend’s house complete with buttery popcorn, movie candy, and a Nicholas Sparks movie, it’s always a fun option that’s easy to put together. If watching The Notebook is going to part of one’s itinerary of the night, it’s a more pleasant experience if friends are alongside.
- Spend time with family
Relationships with family members are generally long-lasting and highly important; therefore, spending quality time with family on Valentine’s Day is a worthy cause to sit out from feeling sorry about one regarding not having a date. Something as simple as having a special dinner with family members would be a nice celebration of love shared between the family for many years.
- Gather a group of singles for a get-together/V-day party
This year, Valentine’s Day happens to fall on a Friday. That means staying up late to have a good time with friends and to meet new people is a great opportunity to take advantage of.
These are only a few ideas of activities for Valentine’s Day but it is easy to plan a day full of fun whether one has a special someone to spend it with or not. Relationships with friends and family members are equally important to relationships with a boyfriend or girlfriend so it is important to value these relationships on this day especially, rather than bitterly oppose celebrating Valentine’s Day.
