Micheal Wolfe 12 has begun “ride along’s” with the Monument fire department in order to gain experience to become a firefighter. Wolfe enjoys the aspect of teamwork that is an innate characteristic of fire-fighting. He also values the experience that he has learned from being included in the activities of the fire department.

“You’re included in everything. You’re apart of their team for a day,” Wolfe said. “You start off by observing and helping the firefighters out with their chores, checking the inventory on the rigs, and with the tools and the bags. You go with them on calls. You have the chance to do things like running merge into any sort of scene.”

Although Wolfe has never put his life on the line while working with the fire department, he believes it to be an honorable job and values the experience he has gained from it.

Although Wolfe does not get school credit for doing the ride along with the fire department, he thinks that it is a good way to help out the community and be involved. He finds that it is a good way to get out of the house. He is also planning on being a fire-fighter EMT.

Wolfe thinks that it is a good way to give back to the community and feels more like he’s actually done something good for someone.

“Experiencing the camaraderie that comes along with being in the fire department is a great feeling,” Wolfe said. “So my first ride along we had was a firehouse dinner, it was ribs. It was a big family style dinner.”

Wolfe feels like being apart of the fire department is like a second family to him. He is excited to see where this takes him in the long run. He hopes to gain more knowledge from being apart of the fire department ride along’s.
