The crowd roars as the Seattle Seahawks set up on the one yard line. It is second down, and there are 26 seconds left in the game. Quarterback Russell Wilson lines up in the shotgun formation, running back Marshawn Lynch is to his left.
Wilson snaps the ball, drops back a yard, and fires a bullet intended for Ricardo Lockette. It didn’t reach its mark. Rookie Malcolm Butler snatches the ball away before Lockette can make a play on it. With that interception Patriots win 28-24.

A championship game that lived up to the hype. Going into the Super Bowl, there was so much controversy for the Patriots, with the overkill discussion of deflate gate.

For the Seahawks, they had key defensive players with injuries. Patriots brought their precise, dominant quarterback Tom Brady and a very strong offense to the table. The Seahawks brought their high energy and overpowering defense.

Jeremy Lane made the first big play of the game, picking off Tom Brady, ending an almost 8 minute drive. He left the game with a wrist injury from the hit he received on the play.

His replacement, Therold Simon, was picked apart by Brady the rest of the game. Brady completed his record 50th touchdown pass to Brandon Lafell to make the game 7-0.

Chris Matthews completed a 44 yard pass from Russell Wilson. This led to a bruising 3 yard touchdown run from Marshawn Lynch. Seattle tied it up 7 – 7.
Brady found tight end Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown. Patriots up 14-7.
Seattles offense rallied to score in the last 29 seconds of the half. A long pass to Lockette, then a facemask penalty put them on the 10. Pete Carroll decided to go for it with 6 seconds left on the clock. Wilson found Matthews for the touchdown.
It’s tied 14-14 going into halftime.
Seattle came out of the half fighting and went up 24-14, off a Hauschka field goal and a Baldwin touchdown.
The Patriots would not go down without a fight. They came back onto the field swinging.
Brady found Amendola for a touchdown to cap off a 64 yard drive. This made the score 24-21 Seahawks.
The Seahawks went 3 and out and gave the ball back to the Patriots. The Patriots drove down the field, and Brady found Julian Edelman for a 3 yard touchdown. The score is 28-24 Patriots.
The Seahawks got the ball back, and they drove to the 1 yard line, off of long passes to Lynch, Lockette, and Kearse. Lynch rushed four yards from the five yard line to the one.
The next play will go down in history as one of the greatest in Super Bowl history. Wilson lines up in the shotgun formation and throws the interception to rookie Malcolm Butler. A heartbreaking letdown to what should have been a Seahawks victory.
There is a lot of controversy to the last play call by Pete Carrol. Many Head Coaches would run the ball when they are on the 1 yard line, and have one of the best running backs in the league. They would never risk throwing an interception with the pass. The play will go down as one of the most infamous play calls in Superbowl History.
Superbowl 49 was an incredibly exciting, nail biting game. A fight to the end, it was one of the most exciting Super Bowls in recent history.
