The Lewis-Palmer High School varsity men’s tennis team gathered to watch the final showdown of the evening, encouraging Ben Rowland, 10, and Wesley Stuart, 9, as they played their second set. When the ball finally ceased its flying, coach Paul Kardel joined the assembled Rangers to congratulate them on another team win.

The match against Fountain Valley was originally scheduled as the season opener, but due to delays was moved to Homecoming week, finally taking place on Tuesday the 22nd.

“It was weird having the match be put off this long,” team member Garrett Rademacher, 10, said, dispelling the idea that the delay gave the team an edge.

This Lewis-Palmer win extended a streak of successes, setting the team at a 5-1 overall standing, with 1-0 in league games.

The match remained neck-and-neck until the very end, with the Rangers and Great Danes tied until the last doubles match of the evening. Both teams crowded onto the adjacent courts to watch as Rowland and Stuart finally defeated their opponents.

“I thought we would win,” Rademacher said, “I was pretty certain. We just play harder.”
