For swimmers and divers, winter is the best season of the year.  On Friday November 10, swimming and diving season at LP will start up.

The LPHS swim team is a conjoined team that consists of students from Palmer Ridge High School, the classical academy, Lewis Palmer High School, as well as some homeschooled kids. Their team has remained undefeated for the last 4 years in all dual meets.

Brynnon Elmer 11 has been swimming since she was 8 years old, and states “We swim six days a week, from 6:30 to 9:00, so it’s kind of terrible, but also awesome.” When asked what her favorite stroke is, Elmer replied “my favorite is back-stroke, but I do whatever my coach tells me to.”

At  swim meets, swimmers are set up in heats and they get higher points based on how they place.

“Its really fun, because if you drop .1 seconds on your time, everyone is really happy for you. It’s very team oriented.” says Keira Franz 9. “My goal is to drop time on my 50 freestyle.”

To some swimmers, like Keira Bodenheimer 9, swimming is their whole life, even though practice and meets take up most of their time. Keira has been swimming for 6 years and absolutely loves it.

“I love it so much” says Keira, “It gives me purpose.”

This year, our swim team has a new assistant coach.  She is a winner of state competitions and is coming to  help our home team bring home the state trophy.
