Music has been around for ages; and, within the past century or so, music has differentiated across generations. Music is a door into to people’s emotional lives, and it can change a person’s mind set with the press of a button. No matter what the genre of the music is, whether it be rap, jazz or pop rock, it can provide insight about a certain person and his life.

Harrison Christopher Scott, 11, is a student at Lewis-Palmer High School. He believes that music has helped him through the hardest times and inspired him to keep moving forward.

“People will listen to music to get through the tough times. It is a way to help us let out our emotions and feelings. It kind of shapes a person on the outside rather than making them talk about the inner feelings, it helps them escape,” Christopher said.

Ashlyn Winemiller-Edmond, 10, a student at Lewis-Palmer High School, believes that the music that is expressed in today’s society can be a bit demanding towards women. She thinks that the music portrayed can really affect how a women in today’s society react.

“The music I hear on the radio and such, seems to always have a demanding role towards women,” Winemiller-Edmond said. “Also, the women of today’s society are affected by the music because they feel pressured to reach a certain expectation.”

Many people look to music for inspiration, as they can parallel their lives to the lyrics of their favorite tunes. By observing the types of music a person may listen to, one may be able to identify traits of that person. The artist alone that they listen to can identify a person’s personality.

“I grew up listening to country music, being from Texas, and it instantly became a way of life for me. All of my experiences I have gone through all go together in a way. Music has inspired me to keep pushing forward and to never give up,” Christopher said.

Music can be an escape for people to help create a better outlook for their lives and change the way things are. For example, music can as said before, inspire, people to things and change how they view certain aspects that they see. Music can help make a difference by inspiring others to spread positive music or even just spreading music that will make a person’s life more bearable or happier.

It has been scientifically proven that listening to music stimulates the brain in more ways than anything else. According to CNN’s scientific researchers, music can help with neurological stimulation to help relax people, or it can do the opposite and make someone very high-strung. Whatever the effect may be, the music we listen to today can change our mood greatly and has an impact on how we act as a person. The music can also affect a person based on their gender and how the music portrays one another.

The music we listen to today has cultural, moral and emotional impacts on today’s society. This indicates that more we focus on the music that surrounds us, the more aware we are of ourselves and our society.
