As the holidays are right around the corner family recipes and traditions are coming out. Lights, trees, and the overall happy feeling the small town of Monument gets into brings everyone right into the thing we call holiday fever.
One family recipe we have done in my family for many years is peppermint bark. This has always been one of my favorite holiday treats.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- One bag of chocolate chips (you can use any kind but I typically use dark chocolate)
- One bag of white chocolate chips
- Peppermint candies ( I use about 8 candy canes but any kind works)
Directions:
- Grab a cookie sheet and line it with parchment paper.
- Put your chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave the chocolate chips for 30 seconds at a time stirring in between to make sure it is nice and smooth.
- Repeat steps 2 & 3 with the white chocolate chips.
- Next take your peppermint and put it in a Ziploc bag
- Crush the candy can with a hammer or rolling pin etc.
- Then starting with the dark chocolate spread it evenly on the bottom of your cookie sheet
- Put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to let it harden
- Then spread the white chocolate over that.
- Lastly sprinkle your crushed peppermint over the white chocolate
- Set the cookie sheet back into the refrigerator for about 20 minutes this time.
- Take it out and break the chocolate into whatever sized pieces you would like.
- ENJOY! ( any leftover pieces put them in a Ziploc and store in the freezer)
With a simple yummy treat like this you will have the whole family begging for more. Season’s Greetings and Happy Holidays.
