Adrenaline was pumping through the veins of the Poms team on Wednesday, October 29, as they prepared to take the floor at the Pikes Peak Athletic Conference competition. The team had spent months learning and perfecting their state routine and were ready to show the crowd their hard work.

“We have been cleaning our routine a lot,” Erika Peterson, 9, said. “We give each other constructive feedback to make the routine as perfect as possible.”

Many of the members of the Poms team have competed before, but for others, this was their first ever dance competition. It is easy to let the nerves take over, but the team worked to calm each other down before they took the floor.

“I just need to remember to relax and have fun; it’s just another performance,” Peterson said.

The Poms team was the first team to compete at PPAC this year. They competed with a dance number against their rivals, the Palmer Ridge Golden Bears, who danced a hip-hop routine.

The girls came out on top earning a first place trophy and continued their winning streak of three 1st place awards.

The next competition will be at the Denver Coliseum on December 6 when the team will be competing for a state title.
