The DECA chapter at Lewis-Palmer high school has become a competitive club that many students enjoy taking part in each year. DECA is not limited to just LP though, as it is a worldwide program in which high school as well as college students can participate. DECA aims to teach students business tactics and techniques in communication that can be beneficial in the world outside of school. Students participate in mock business role-plays that imitate real life situations. The variety of role-plays allow for students to experiment with numerous different scenarios and discover which category is suited best for their needs.
Learning how to complete a successful role-play is essential for the various invitational throughout the year as well as the chance to compete at the Colorado statewide competition.
The Lewis- Palmer DECA chapter is made up of over 100 students. The club is involved with creating activities as well as dances in order to raise money to fund the program. Joining DECA is a great way for students to get involved, meet new people and prepare for future business situations.
The members of the program competed on Thursday, December 4 in the annual district invitational, held at the Double Tree Hotel in Colorado Springs. DECA students from various high schools throughout Colorado Springs went face to face in business role-plays in order to qualify for a position at the state event. Out of the many schools and students competing, several LP students were able to qualify for the next round of competition. LP DECA is sure to sweep away their competition at state which will take place in February.
