Fourth place in the floor event at a state competition and competing in Xcel for the past two years, Hannah Rollins, 9, has been involved with the complex sport of gymnastics. Ever since she was three years old, Rollins has been practicing and competing in gymnastic events with occasional breaks every few years.

Rollins joined the initial Sundance gymnastics team in 7th grade. As a freshman, this was her first year on the Lewis-Palmer District 38 gymnastics team. Rollins, along with the entire D38 gymnastics team, made it to regionals where they were only one spot  from making it to the state competition.

With four events to choose from, Rollins favorite event happens to be floor. She especially enjoys to perform back-handsprings and walkovers. Like every sport, gymnastics takes many hours of practice and training to perfect routines and maintain flexibility. The hours Rollins trains for gymnastics add up to a total of 9-12 hours depending if it is competition season for gymnastics. She trains in Monument’s Sundance Studio, and is coached by Kathy Clows year round.

“Gymnastics is pretty hard and even though I’m not always the best on the team, it is always fun for me,” Rollins said.

Until the next gymnastic season, Rollins hopes to improve her skills during off-season practices and over the summer. In the 2015-2016 gymnastics year, she hopes to make it to the state competition with the D38 team.

“Competing with the D38 gymnastics team was a good Experience, and I hope to do it next year.” Rollins said.
