Lewis-Palmer swim team fights to continue undefeated record.

Deep yells echo off the glass walls of the Monument Hill Country Club and the swimmers hear the familiar sound of the referee’s voice.

“Take your marks…” the referee says and the loud, shrill sound of the buzzer goes off. The first swimmer in each lane push off the blocks and they enter the water, going the fastest they can possibly go.

The Monument Hill Country Club isn’t always filled with the energy of a meet though, most of the time, it is home to the Lewis Palmer High School swim and dive team. The team practices two and a half hours every day.

“Practice is pretty hard. We usually swim over two miles a day with little to no rest in between sets.” Matt Lyons, 11.

The team does not just practice hard, however. The team has been around for ten years and has yet to lose a dual meet.

“Our record is 70-0-1,” Trevor Morgan, 10, said, “It is really stressful being on an undefeated team. We are always worried about the next meet and if we will have the power and speed to beat them.”

The swim team’s next meet is on Tuesday, April 14th against Air Academy. Be sure to go support the Rangers at the Monument Hill Country Club at 4:00.
