Brad Smagner

Brad Smagner, 9, is a student at Lewis-Palmer High School. He is a football player as well as a baseball player for the Lewis-Palmer Rangers. This will be his fifth year playing football and his eleventh year playing baseball.

In football he plays cornerback or wide receiver and in baseball he plays everything except for first base and pitcher. So far Smagner has enjoyed himself a lot this football season. He feels that this has been the best year in football for him, because of the friendly competition between the upperclassmen and the freshman teams, the coaches and the increase in responsibilities.

“I’ve had a lot of fun in football this season. The coaches know what they are doing and there is a lot of responsibility for everyone, way more than there was in middle school. If you mess up, it can really disappoint the team, but even though it sucks, you just get back up, keep moving and don’t let it happen again,” Smagner said.

Smagner also said that even though the freshman teams aren’t quite as recognized as the upperclassmen teams, he believes that their hard work pays off and they do not need recognition to want to work hard and love the sport that they play.

As for Smagner’s baseball career at Lewis-Palmer, he says that he is very excited because that is his sport of choice and because he is excited to see how the season plays out.

“There are hardly any differences in football and baseball,” Smagner said. “The only difference is that in football you’re hitting people, in baseball you’re hitting the ball.”

Smagner, like many other freshman, is excited to continue his sports career at Lewis-Palmer, and make his school proud.
