Rangers Demolish Bears

Nikki Clark, Ranger Review Reporter

The biggest games of the year are always the Lewis Palmer (LP)/Palmer Ridge (PR) rivalry games. During fall season, there’s football; In the winter season, it’s basketball; And now, in the spring season, it’s baseball. Thursday, April 28, LP hosted the varsity baseball game.

The team prepares for a team huddle after a big win.

“We didn’t treat it like anything different. We just went out there and played baseball and that’s about it. I think we just need to treat it like a regular game. There’s nothing to it.” Blayke Walsh, 12 said.

The team is working hard in order to beat PR. PR is strong at fielding whereas LP is strong at hitting. PR is 7 – 2 and LP is 8 – 2. Last year, the outcome of the game was a win for LP by 1, 4-3.

“We’re good at hitting and pitching. We’re really good at pitching and can hit really well. We just need to work on our defense. I didn’t see anything PR was really strong at. They played kind of mediocre.” Walsh said.

Thursday, the Lewis Palmer Rangers defeated the Palmer Ridge Bears 9-1. Keeping LP in the league and moving on. PR didn’t score their one run until the top of the seventh, whereas LP, scored 3 in the bottom of the first, 1 in the bottom of the second, and 5 in the bottom of the fifth.

“The game went well. We won 9-1. The team did well on hitting and just not having any errors. PR’s pitcher threw strikes consistently but their fielding was the best. We need to improve on having a better attitude and just keeping our heads in the game.” Josh Borgen, 12 said.

The stands were the usual “full”, meaning barely. Which is uncommon for a rivalry game. The weather was snowy rain and cold which could be a factor as to why the stands were so bare. Even with so little fans, the Rangers still received enthusiasm every time a player walked up to bat or when the team was fielding and was going for the ball to get an out, which was very little.

“I got there at pretty much the end of the game and it was filled with mostly parents. I was expecting it to be somewhat full because it’s kind of a big game. It was cold though, so that could’ve been why no one was there. They didn’t want to freeze.” Kaitlin Wada, 12 said.

Once the game was over, PR’s team took a lap while LP went next to third base to have their team meeting. When they were done, they did their team huddle where Paul Tillotson, 12 said “Rangers on three” and the boys followed after. The team broke off, Tillotson and the coach had about 4 reporters waiting for them. Tillotson reportedly had a fantastic day with pitching, not having a single walk. Tillotson was named the Maxpreps player of the game as well.

Next Wednesday, May 4, the Rangers go against the Bears once more, but on the Bears territory. Lewis Palmer isn’t doing anything different to prepare, just treating it like any other game.
