When discussing sports anything is possible in theory. Putting those theories and plays into practice is completely different, however. As statistics can only speak so loud from paper, performance is the key to any game and is always the deciding factor rather than a win-loss ratio or points scored stat. Not to say stats don’t more often than not correlate with performance because they do, but the mindset of a team cannot be seen on paper so understanding something like momentum and how it will effect a game is a tricky thing for sports analysts and fans alike.

For Lewis-Palmer Boy’s Basketball momentum plays a key role in the way they are playing at the moment. With an eleven game win streak, they picked up speed early in the season and have continued to snowball over the competition. They have gone as far as to carry their progress over the other top two teams in the region, Sand Creek and Vista Ridge High School. Those two wins will definitely set a positive pace going into the postseason for LP but a very threatening one for their competitors.

“We have a lot of momentum and we know we can beat really good teams if we play together so we’re really just focused on taking it one game at a time. Not looking to playoffs yet, just beating one team at a time and play hard every single game even if it’s not a good team,” says senior captain Billy Cook on the part of the season so far and how he thinks the season will proceed.

The boys on the team are feeling the momentum they are carrying going into their next game. They say it is a big mental factor for them and their competitors. The momentum they carry is also momentum not carried by one player but by the team as a whole.

“Everyone is super good at different things, we don’t have anyone who puts up amazing numbers every single night but we have people who are consistent at what they do,” said Cook when asked who were the stars of the team.

The consistency of the LP Basketball team is what is allowing them to continue their momentum in the season as they continue to perform well on the court. Their performance as players isn’t just a daily gamble as to whether or not one player seems to carry the rest of the team to victory. Or players relying on the other members of the team to do their job as players for them. It is a consistently positive performance from them that allows them to do as well as they are and continue their lead in the region.
