XXXTENTACION is a new and upcoming rapper who is mainly known for screaming lyrics at listeners in his song “Look at Me!” which is a more upbeat and party song as opposed to his newest album “17”. This album is very controversial because it talks about suicide and touches on X’s friend, Jocelyn Flores’, suicide. “17” is a collection of nightmares, thoughts, and real life situations that I have lived” said X in the first track on the album titled: The Explanation.

XXXTENTACION’s main goal with 17 is to help cure or numb peoples depression. The songs are: “Revenge” and “Jocelyn Flores.” The whole album has very nice vocals and good beats. The opener “Jocelyn Flores”  starts with vocals from Shiloh Dynasty; Shiloh is on multiple tracks on the album such as carry on, and everybody dies in their nightmares. The only other feature on the track is Trippie Redd, he is on the track “F*ck Love.” Trippie Redd was the perfect feature on this album because he has a great voice and he has gone through the things that X is talking about in the album

The most plain song on the project is “Depression and obsession” and the song is basically X with an acoustic guitar. It’s a good song but it is very plain and not up to par with the rest of the songs on the album. The song with the most deep of meanings is “Jocelyn Flores.” Although it’s only two minutes long the song really shows X’s surprisingly good vocals and it tells about his friend who killed herself while visiting him in Florida. On the first verse he tells when he found out about her suicide: “Picture this, in bed get a phone call girl that you f*cked with killed herself.”

All of the songs show X’s great vocals and show that just because most of his songs are hard hitting party music, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t go through things or hasn’t gone through things. There is no reason for one to think that XXXTENTACION will not be around for a long time. He’s only 19 and he is only scratching the surface, if he continues down this path he could be and will be one of the biggest rappers/songwriters in the world.
