On March 2, 2017, Anthony Kiedis, singer of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, fell ill with bronchitis, causing the band to cancel their show planned for that evening. Luckily, the Chili Peppers rescheduled their show for October 16, 2017, and they did not disappoint.

Held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, the concert opened with Jack Irons, the former drummer for the band, and a solo vocal piece by Josh Klinghoffer, the current lead guitarist.

The Red Hot Chili peppers played songs from many different albums including: One Hot Minute, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and their newest album released in 2016, The Getaway, which is the name of their current tour. They opened with “Can’t Stop” from the album Stadium Arcadium. With it’s upbeat tempo, it started off their set list right.

The band continued on with upbeat songs, keeping the crowd on their feet for the whole show. They also had an array of “floating” lanterns that lit up and moved with the beat of the music. “It was awesome, the lights looked incredible, it tied the whole show together.” said Nick Bridges, my brother who attends UNC Greeley, who also accompanied me at the concert.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers brought the house down when they returned to the stage for an encore after the crowd raved for them to play one last set. They finished of the show with a rendition of “Give It Away” from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

Though it took them almost a year to return back to Colorado, the band made it worth the wait with an amazing show. I think they outdid themselves and deserve a 10/10. The band did not fail to impress the city of Denver. If they return, I would recommend attending their show. They are an iconic band with a very individual style; seeing them live is something you don’t want to miss.
