All of the students at Lewis-Palmer are different, and most of them fit within a certain clique. Every high school has a clique problem but Lewis-Palmer’s has gone overboard.
“Our school does have a bad clique problem. People get stuck in a group after a certain time like volleyball or basketball. Our class [2013] is the one with the worst problem,” senior Nate McBride said.
Walking into the lunchroom one can see the different “groups.” The sports teams sit together, the clubs are seen together, it’s almost like Lewis-Palmer is not a whole anymore. Each year it seems as if the problem grows.
The quote from the movie Mean Girls describes our school impeccably, “You got your freshmen, ROTC guys, preps, J.V. jocks, Asian nerds, cool Asians, varsity jocks, girls who eat their feelings, girls who don’t eat anything, desperate wannabes, burnouts, the greatest people you will ever meet, and the worst.,” the character Janis Ian said.
Kids are seen eating lunch alone in the hallways because the school is so cliquey. People feel like they don’t fit in with a group and are left out.
Lewis-Palmer used to be one and grade levels used to do things together. In the past few years the school as a student body has fallen apart.
The school as a whole needs to get back together and become a family again. Students spend more time with their friends and peers than they do with their families. We all need to get along and accept each other.
No one deserves to be excluded. The brokenness of the student body needs to be fixed and put back together again.
