With Halloween only a few days behind us, it would seem almost too earl to be preparing for the winter holidays. However, students of all ages are proving that it is never too early to anticipate the holiday season.
Despite Thanksgiving break just looming a few weeks away (much closer than winter break), the anticipation of Christmas, and the winter season in general is strong than in year’s past. “I can’t wait for Christmas,” junior Hannah Fleming said, “I am so excited for the whole holiday experience to be here, that time of year just seems to make everyone more cheerful.” Fleming said.
Winter break also seems to be more favorable over the nearing Thanksgiving break. This may be due to the fact that is considerably longer, exceeding Thanksgiving break by over a week.
“I like winter break better than Thanksgiving break because it is a lot longer of a break, I have more time to hang out with friends, play hockey and Christmas is more fun than Thanksgiving.” junior Dmitri Smith said. It seems that nearly everyone prefers winter break not only due to the fact that it is much longer, but in general, the winter holidays are more popular than Thanksgiving.
“I love Thanksgiving, it is such a fun holiday, but it mostly focuses on just one meal. Christmas just seems to be and represent so much more. I also like winter break better because there is more than one holiday during the break. It is always nice to be able to celebrate New Year’s without having to worry about waking up early (for school) the next day.” junior Michaela Okland said.
While students do appreciate Thanksgiving and all its many traditions, it is obvious, there is much more excitement geared towards the nearing winter holidays.
