Many people at Lewis-Palmer are spending their free time outside of school to play sports like freshman. Keegan Mantaro. Mantaro plays hockey for the Colorado Thunderbirds.
He spends a lot of time missing school because he is passionate about hockey. His training is intense and time consuming.
“I miss a ton of school because I leave at 2:15 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I also sometimes miss Fridays and Thursday because of traveling to play. Sometimes missing school makes me fall behind but I try my best to say up with the work,” Mantaro said.
Mantaro’s position is defense, this means that he is to protect the goalie and tries to keep the puck from going in the goal. He is like an assistant to the goalie but is consistently moving around on the ice.
Most students at the age 15 have not traveled a lot, but Mantaro does.
“My favorite part about hockey is that I get to travel around the United States,” Mantaro said.
Keegan Mantaro doesn’t mind missing all the school because he is driven to play hockey. As long as he doesn’t fall to far behind he will continue to miss school to play the sport he loves.
