Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, recently passed away. He served as South Africa’s first African-American president from 1994 to 1999.
He is often recognized as one of the most respected men in the world, and during his time of presidency he worked to conquer racism, poverty, and tension between South Africa and other countries.
Mandela passed away on the fifth of December at age 95. He died from natural causes, which is why it surprised everyone.
Mandela was also featured in the movies “A Long Walk to Freedom” and “Invictus”, adding to the many reasons that Mandela is internationally know. He recently was interviewed by Time Magazine and was nominated for Man of The Year.
