The student recruits of Lewis-Palmer sign their letter of intents.

February 1st is a day that is exciting for both high schools and colleges. This is the annual College Signing Day. This year we had eleven students participate in this special day. Three of the signees were signing scholarships for football, one of the signees was signing for tennis, and the other eight were signing for soccer scholarships.

Five of those eight soccer players, that signed on Wednesday, February 1st, have been part of the teams that had a playoff berth in 2014, a state championship appearance in 2015, and a State title in 2016. These players are Kate Devine, Kirsten Hatton, Annica Fletemeyer, Karly Sandoval, and Brianna Alger.

All of these girls signed 1 year year contracts to go to the schools of their choices. These contracts included specific scholarships, unique to each individual

Kate Devine signed to the University of Northern Colorado along with multiple others from Lewis-Palmer High School. The University of Northern Colorado is a public baccalaureate and graduate research university with approximately 12,000 students and six colleges and is also a Division One school.

Kirsten Hatton signed to the University of St. Thomas Minnesota and is really looking forward to her collegiate career. She chose St. Thomas over the University of North Dakota, the University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado State University. She will also be pursuing a major in business.

“The coach was really personable and reached out to me, which was one of the main reasons I chose St. Thomas along with the fact that the campus is beautiful and there are a bunch of things to around the campus. The team is also really good. They have one of the better Division-3 soccer programs. They went 17-3-1 for the season last year, and I just can’t wait to be part of the team,” said Hatton.

Karly Sandoval signed to the University of North Dakota. She said that when she visited the university she instantly fell in love with the campus. When meeting the team she realized it would be a perfect fit.

“I loved the campus when I visited it. I picked this college over the University South Dakota, and Weaver State University because the coach and team were really cool and friendly. I also plan on majoring in microbiology because North Dakota has a good program. As a Center-Back one of my goals is to start my Freshman year which is really uncommon,” stated Sandoval.

Annica Fletemeyer signed to Middle Tennessee State University to play as a Center-Forward for the extremely competitive Blue Raiders. She can’t wait to compete for the team and one of her favorite coaches.

“The reason I signed to Middle Tennessee because the coach is amazing. He is the coolest coach I have met. He loves me and my family and I can’t wait to play for him. Middle Tennessee also has an amazing interior program which is what I would like to Major in,” said Fletemeyer

Brianna Alger signed to Washington State University on a full ride scholarship. She also had a full ride offer from Colorado University. She plans on majoring in nursing.

“All the coaches and players were extremely welcoming to me. I’m really just hoping to get some playing time. The soccer program is pretty full and competitive.” said Alger.

These girls have been playing soccer together since their late elementary to their early middle school days. All girls plan to make the state championships again this year and win the 4A State Championships for Girls Soccer.
