64 teams entered the NCAA college basketball tournament, 4 teams remain. The die is cast. Let the Final Four Begin.
The tournament started up March 17th with wins by low ranked teams over other low ranked teams.
The tournament then went onto the second round. Major upsets of #14 Georgia State over #3 Baylor, #11 UCLA over #6 SMU, and #14 University of Alabama-Birmingham over #3 Iowa State.
The tournament then moved to the third round with 32 teams. The big games and upsets continued with, #7 Wichita State overcoming #2 Kansas. Then #8 North Carolina State eliminated #1 Villanova, the only number one seed to get eliminated. Michigan State, a 7 seed, then eliminated #2 Virgina.
The Sweet Sixteen then commenced a big upset win for Michigan State over #3 Oklahoma.
Next, the Elite Eight with Michigan State getting another big win over #4 Louisville.
April 4th Duke, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Kentucky will face off for a chance at the championship game.
Kentucky is the favorite to win the tournament, they have 2 All-Americans, Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns; who are Kentucky’s starting big men. They have an unbelievably deep rotation, and offensively are dominant; as seen when they beat West Virginia 78- 39. Their defense is also very strong, opponents field goal percentage against them is 35.2%, the best in the NCAA.
Wisconsin is another strong team in this tournament, they are led by the 7 foot center Frank Kaminsky. Wisconsin is a very experienced team, with many players from last year’s tournament who came back this year. They shoot the three well, and are definitely a contender for the championship, if they can beat Kentucky in the final four.
Duke is a strong team led by legendary coach Mike Kryzyewski and candidate for Player of the Year, Jahlil Okafor. They will have to get past Michigan State if they want a chance at the championship, but that will be very possible for this Blue Devil Team.
Michigan State has a lot to prove being the only team in the Final Four not ranked with a one seed. But as shown by their big wins earlier on in the tournament, they are fighters. They are also led by head coach Tom Izzo, whos has a very successful March Madness record. He has led the Michigan State Spartans to nine Elite Eight and seven Final Four appearances. They are on a winning roll and should not be counted out, they can win upsets
