The HBO hit series Game of Thrones season 7 was released July, 17 2017. The fast growing show follows the story of the seven kingdoms and the battle for the Iron Throne.

The show was first released in 2011 and is based off the books written by George Martin. The show had great numbers from season 1 through 6, these numbers already set records for HBO, but they hit record breaking heights and grew a phenomenal fan base for HBO as season 7 came along.

The show is known for its world renowned-actors, such as Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, and Kit Harington. Season Seven’s premier broke its previous records, as 16.1 million viewers tuned into Season 7. This number shatters last season’s premier by 50%, and leads to HBO’s 2017 success.

The show suits all sorts of audiences, as it has a little bit of everything. The recent season 7 blew audiences away and focused on epic battle scenes, grand scenic views, and of course dragons, although previous seasons have had battles they have been more focused on developing characters and the storyline.

People like the show for different reasons, considering the storyline is so vast, and therefore it draws in a large scale audience. I started watching the show last year and it had me hooked, between the action-packed episodes and thrilling storyline it was instantly my favorite show. The new season is no different. Between massive action scenes and a growing plot season 7 defied my expectations and had me sucked in from the first episode.

The new season drew the audience in more with bigger scenes, more character development “I like it because of the complexity of the show, and the characters are interesting.” Patrick Haggard 12 said. Fans range from 18-29 according to Fansided Reviews. The new season targeted a younger age base which could be the answer to their record breaking numbers in 2017.

Critics said the one thing the new season lacked was the amount of episodes. Previous seasons have had 10 episodes per season giving the the viewers 10 weeks of following the story. Season 7 only released 8 episodes. As a huge fan of the show I was disappointed in the season length but the content that was released made up for the shortened season.

Perhaps the most shocking news released about the season was the cost. The cost per episode in the shortened season was 10 million dollars, compared to season six, where each episode was 6 million dollars.

The season 8 release date is not set yet, but according to the Sun the new season will come out in 2018; however, people have said it could come out as late as 2019. Season 8 is said to be the final season in the series and HBO predicts it will continue to shatter previous numbers and set new
heights for future show series.
