Megyn Kelly, a news anchor, has left NBC News due to controversy stemming from her racist remarks on October 23rd. The topic was blackfacing, which is a heavily debated Halloween practice. This practice involves the painting of ones face to look like a person of color.

Kelly, who was the lead host of the Today Show on NBC’s Primetime, is currently negotiating her departure from the news network due to the backlash she received after her defense of the blackface costumes.

“I cannot believe the ignorance on this in 2018. You are on national television,” Padma Lakshmi, the host for “Top Chef,” said in a tweet. “You have a responsibility to educate yourself on social issues. This is so damaging.”

“Blackfacing” is a Halloween practice in which a person who is not of dark skin color puts paint on his or her face in order to appear a different skin color.

During a discussion about Halloween, Kelly defended “blackface” and “whiteface” by stating that it was “Okay when I was a kid as long as you were dressing like a character.” This then led to backlash from the public which caused Kelly to publicly apologize to viewers.

After this incident, it has been confirmed by NBC that Kelly will not be returning to the Today Show. “Next week the 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other TODAY co-anchors,” said NBC.

It has also been confirmed that Kelly’s career at NBC is over and that she will not be returning to the network.

NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack addressed the issue stating, “I assume all of you by now have seen the remarks that (Megyn Kelly) made on her show yesterday about Halloween and blackface,” Lack made a statement saying, “There is no other way to put this but I condemn those remarks, there is no place on our air or in this workplace for them. Very unfortunate.”
