Ryals runs with her lacrosse stick towards the goal line. “I want to model my defensive play like Notre Dame.”

Serah Ryals 9 plays lacrosse for Team 180 Sports, which is a club girls team designed for advanced and highly focused athletes.

As stated by the Team 180 website, “Our primary objective is to enable each athlete to become the best lacrosse player she can be, behind a philosophy of strong team development.  We encourage our teams to remain together from middle school, through high school. Practicing and playing together, on a consistent basis, builds trust and understanding, raising our level of play.”

Before a game, Ryals says she listens to music and just kind of “jams.” During her game, “Sometimes I get angry, if someone hits me, I get them back later in the game,” Ryals said. “I’m very competitive so I like to beat people. Sometimes when we’re behind I really get into it.”

Like any athlete, Ryals has both short-term and long-term goals. “Short term, probably for lacrosse using my left hand; Long Term, getting onto varsity or into an ivy league college.”

“My desire to play lacrosse, on a scale from 1 to 10 is probably an 8, because I really like when we do a drill and I really want to get it done,” Ryals said. “I focus on what we need to practice on and then I go home that day working on what I messed up and stuff like that.”

The college Notre Dame influences Ryals to work harder. In fact Ryals has many colleges in mind for after High School.

“Notre Dame, Boston, Michigan, I like how they stand out. I was listening to an interview and one of the girls said how they wrestle and they box because it helps them focus and think about like: this is who we are, what we fight for and, what we want. It helps show what they stand for.”
