Home schooled senior Laura Day competes with the Lewis-Palmer High School swim team. Day chose to swim with the team since her freshmen year, and she is finishing up her last year as an athlete in high school.

Day has been a competitive swimmer for ten years. All of her siblings are also competitive swimmers, including a brother who competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Trials.

She decided to swim with the team because all of her siblings before her competed with Lewis-Palmer. The Day family also has a connection with head coach Alan Arata. The family of swimmers has been training with Arata for many years.

Day enjoys the competitive spirit of the girls team at Lewis-Palmer. The team consists of girls that compete at a state level. Some girls have the potential to win their event at the state competition this year.

Day competed at the state competition every year that she has competed for LP. Her sophomore year was her biggest achievement. She won the 100 breaststroke event.

“I won the event with a 1:06.35 at 4A state,”  Day said.

Day was the runner up for the same event her junior year with a time of 1:04.41. She again was the runner up this year.

Day will be swimming with Liberty University in Virginia next year in college. She is very excited to be swimming with the team at a college level.

“The coach really impressed me, and they have some super fast girls coming in next year,” Day said.

The state competition was held February 9th and 10th at the EPIC pool in Fort Collins, Colorado. The team placed 4th overall out of 32 teams. Receiving 4th in state is the best the girls’ swim and dive team has ever done.
