Ranger Pageant brings down the house

On Friday, April 16th, Rowdy Rangers hosted the second annual Ranger Pageant. This year welcomed many new contestants but Ryan Pinkerton and returning champion Amy-Joy Watt took were named Mr. and Mrs. Ranger by the end of the night.

The evening started off with the beach wear category and was followed by talent. Technical issues delayed music for Andie Perez, Amy-Joy Watt, Jill Bellandi, Katie Kimball, and Haley White’s dance; but that didn’t hold them back. The crew performed to announcer Mrs. De’s rapping skills but got a second chance later with their real music.

“We came up with the dance the night before the pageant,” said Perez.

Other crowd favorites were Pinkerton’s Jersey Shore. He influenced a crowd participation act that involved a whole lot of GTL (Gym, Tanning, and Laundry) and got the whole audience ‘fist-bumping’.  Josh Scott and Mona Wallum took it home with a special rendition of Jingle Bell Rock accompanied by the dance from Mean Girls.

“I taught the dance to Josh about 30 minutes before we preformed it” said Wallum. As a sophomore, this is her second time in the pageant and she hopes to participate every year until she graduates.

Formal wear was next but the interviews were a chance for the contestants to really earn some points with the judges. From sucking up to each judge personally, to a special rendition of “It’s Raining” by Irana George; the competitors added a unique touch to each interview.

After a judges deliberation and a contestant free-style dance-off, Coach Tupper and Mrs. De presented Pinkerton and Watt the title of Mr. and Mrs. Ranger and two tickets to the prom on April 21st.
