On the annual Journalism Day over 1,400 student journalists and advisers from all over Colorado come together to learn more about the art of journalism. Colorado High School Press Association heads up this day of learning for all journalism students around the state.

Colorado State University partners with CHSPA to put on this conference. The sessions are held in the Lory Student Center on CSU’s campus on Thursday October 11.

Lewis-Palmer’s yearbook, newspaper and LP-TV staffs will be attending this conference to learn how to make their publications better. The newspaper staff hopes to improve and learn more about online publications, the yearbook staff wants to improve their photography skills and the LP-TV staff wants to learn more about the art of broadcast journalism.

At the conference the students will attend three sessions that teach everything from how to take the perfect yearbook photo to how to write that award winning newspaper story. They will also get to hear from the featured speaker Kim Green, the H.L. Hall National Yearbook Adviser of the Year.

Journalism Day offers 40 learning sessions for all areas of the journalism world. These sessions are taught by professional journalists, award-winning advisers, college professors, and some high school editors.

A newly-revised Best of Show competition will be available for all of the schools in attendance, and the All-Colorado awards will be awarded to the schools that entered the summer critique service. The All-Colorado awards are including a digital online medium. Those who enter the summer critique service can be awarded an Award of Merit, Award of Commendation and the highest level of All-Colorado.

This year the Lewis-Palmer students will stay to watch the award ceremony where the Best of Show and All-Colorado awards will be awarded to the schools.
