There has been a lot of chatter of Amendment Sixty-Four, about whether it should or shouldn’t pass. However, on November 7, 2012, Amendment Sixty-Four was passed in Colorado.

Marijuana is now legal for adult use, and dispensaries will be placed alongside select pharmacies. There are a few rules to follow though.

Marijuana will be regulated with the same restrictions as alcohol, so the user must be twenty one or older to purchase.

People are allowed to have one ounce on them and can own up to six plants. Public use is prohibited, so there will be no lounges or bars for the use of it, and people must use the product in their own homes.

Driving while under the influence of the marijuana will not be tolerated and the user will be fined and charged, just as if the person were under the influence of alcohol. Any people who were charged with possession of marijuana before the amendment was passed will have no change in their charges.

“It has its ups and downs. The downside being people wasting their money on something they shouldn’t, and the upside being people are able to enjoy it without it being illegal,” senior Jordyn Trader said.

Though marijuana is legal for now, the state may have to overturn it due to federal law. However, people can enjoy it while it lasts.
