Ouija gives people screams… of boredom

Michael Bay is the director and writer of the worst movie in the Transformers franchise: “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” Filled with corny dialogue, terrible fight scenes and an unrealistically attractive girl, this movie is terrible. Right after the blockbuster failure that was “Transformers 4”, however, Michael Bay turned right around from one failure to an even worse one when he made “Ouija.”
The film tells of a girl named Debbie who mysteriously commits suicide after she tried to communicate to the dead using a Ouija board late at night. Debbie’s best friend, Laine was distraught about her death and needed closure about it. She convinces her group of friends to use a Ouija board to attempt to contact Debbie in the afterlife. Instead of contacting Debbie, they contact an evil spirit that was out for revenge.
Throughout the rest of the film the tenacious teens try to solve the mystery of Debbie’s death while avoiding their own death. Stories in horror movies aren’t supposed to be Academy Award winning, but that is no excuse to use the most cliché and generic premise ever and really brings film down.
Among the various elements that make the film unwatchable is the characters, The main character’s name is Laine, who is as original as a new installment in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. One of the more minor characters is Trevor. To the naked eye this minor detail really isn’t a problem, but in just about every horror movie ever there is at least one person named Trevor. Michael Bay’s inept ability to generate redundancy in his movies reflects on the character development in his newest film.
The last thing to be said about this movie is that Michael Bay tried way too hard to make a good horror movie. It seemed as if Michael Bay went into the “Horror Movies for Dummies” book and copy and pasted it into “Ouija’s” script and it shows all throughout the movie.
So after all the cliché characters, writing, and acting, the final rating for this movie is a 5/10. There wasn’t a saving factor for this script, and there simply isn’t anything about this movie that is good. The only thing about this movie that had viewers screaming in terror was how awful it was.
