Abbey Meier, 9, is one of the baseball managers for the Lewis-Palmer 2016 baseball season. She plans on helping out anyway she can to contribute towards having another successful baseball season like in previous years.

“I take my job very seriously, I feel like the most I can contribute would be keeping the score correct. Trying not to make mistakes while scoring is a challenge, if you make mistakes you’re messing up the player’s statistics. So I do my best by limiting the amount of mistakes made, even though sometimes it may not be possible to score correct all the time,” Abbey Meier said.

Baseball managers do different things for example helping to out the coaches and the players. During the baseball season these managers get to become a part of the baseball team. They get different perks that normally, people just sitting in the stands would not receive.

“I got a baseball hat and two T-shirts, we get to be in the dugout when the boys are playing and we do whatever the coach tells us to do. Usually we put up the daily schedule and we keep score. Most of our work is at games, during practice we go and get balls for the players, but that’s really it,” Meier explained.

Getting to be a part of the Lewis-Palmer High School Baseball team as a manager includes different experiences, both good and bad. Meier, as a freshman, this is her first year getting to help out on the team. Abbey already has experiences that she loves about her job and things she dislikes.

“I would say the best part about being a baseball manager even though I could say a whole bunch of other things would be meeting people. Honestly I think that meeting people is an amazing experience, it’s just I love meeting people and getting to find out what their stories are. The worst part is usually the practices because we don’t do too much,” Meier said.

Lewis-Palmer high school baseball’s 2016 team includes five managers, each one of the manager’s are doing their job to help out and make this season a successful one. And each have an appreciation or a reason that they wanted to be a part and help out the team.

“I really just love baseball, everything about it I love just how I understand the game and get to be a part of it, it’s just a very American sport,” Meier said. “ Baseball just makes sense to me other people may say it’s confusing, but for me it just clicks I grew up loving the game.”
