Batman vs. Superman vs. the world

Batman vs. Superman vs. the world

Recently, superheros have been taking pop culture by storm. It seems everywhere anyone turns we’re being smothered with Marvel or DC Comics paraphernalia. With  the recent release of Deadpool and the future releases of Suicide Squad and Justice League, the industry is booming.  Now the spotlight is currently on DC’s  Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which adds to the mix of superhero excitement. However, there was a lot of controversy that came out of the woodwork when the movie premiered. Some people believed the industry is fishing for money while others believed this could be a very successful film.

It’s a shame that Batman Vs. Superman is also a storytelling disgrace,” Wrote David Edelstein on Vulture. Com.

Many critics and fans have given the movie similar reviews. Rotten Tomatoes had a five out of ten overall rating for the blockbuster leaving it with a twenty six percent.

Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice smothers a potentially powerful story — and some of America’s most iconic superheroes — in a grim whirlwind of effects-driven action,” read one review from the Critics Consensus.

However, Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice  earned $15.05 million on its first Monday open, which made it the twelfth biggest non-holiday related movie of all time, according to Forbes.com. So, with that being said, it seems  not everyone who went to see the movie had similar opinions to the critics.

“It stayed pretty true to the comics. It showed you the different sides of all the heros and villians: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luther. I think all in all it was really good,” said Kailey Littrell, 8, who is very into the comic world.

She has read more than half of the series and many others from both Batman and Superman comics.

“The actors did a really good job. The story line did too. It’s rare to see movies that stick to the original story line,” said Littrell.

To see how opinions vary throughout schools, I asked around at Lewis-Palmer High School.

“I thought it was awesome, but for some people who havn’t really seen Batman or Superman movies, they said it was really confusing until the end,” Mikayla Stwertnik, 11, said.

Along with the two iconic male superheros, this film also threw an an unexpected curveball: Wonder Woman was also a major character in the movie.

“I wasn’t expecting Wonder Woman to be in it, so that really stood out to me when she came in,” Stwertnik said.

Stwertnik, like many teens and people around the world, seemed to enjoy the overall experience of the movie.

“There were a lot of fight scenes and the plot could have been better, but I like how they had everything come together in the end,” Stwertnivk said.

With all the charged options, like static in the air, I decided I should see for myself what all the buzz is about, and I can honestly say that it was an entertaining movie. Yet, I agree that the plot was almost non-existent. The movie had a lot of potential and had some epic moments, but it seemed they focused so much on the fighting rather than the true emotional conflict that it lost a lot of luster the blockbuster could have had. Regardless, it stayed true to the DC name and was an enjoyment to watch.

No matter the plethora of reviews and opinions Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice has unearthed, or weather the Superman supporters outnumbered those for Batman, or visa versa, it has definitely attracted major media attention and has proved to retain a permanent place in the comics culture.
