The World celebrates Easter

Colored Easter eggs symbolize this holiday in most of countries

The Easter Bunny has come and gone this weekend. He left everybody some candy but took the Easter spirit with him. Kids from most of countries of all over the world enjoyed this nice holiday in different ways.

In Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and other orthodox Christian countries, Easter is celebrated a week later than in America and most of Europe. The symbol of Easter is kulich, home-made bread and eggs colored with red onion skin after which they gain red color. Early in the morning, people in these countries take their Easter baskets full of all kinds of goods to church, where a priest sprinkles holy water on it. After that people get together with their families and enjoy Easter dinner.

Even though Greece is an orthodox country, they still celebrate Easter day according to the catholic calendar. The Easter dinner starts with magarica – soup made from lamb with egg and lemon juice, which symbolizes the Easter ship, main symbol of Easter in many countries. They also put sweet bread surrounded by colored eggs on the table.

In Poland, people set the table with all kinds of dishes including meat, dairy and baked goods that symbolizes the fertility of spring.  The Polish always put a sheep made from sugar or butter which is symbol of joy and pleasure, but also have grated horseradish to remind diners about grief and disappointment. All of the dishes are sanctified in a church before being put on dinner table.

In Italy, people bake a sweet bread in which they put colored eggs. In Lombardy they bake a bread in the shape of a dove as a symbol of peace, in Liguria, a pie is made from 30 layers of thin pastry that symbolizes Jesus Christ’s years.

In France people don’t pay a lot of attention to coloring eggs, but it’s a holiday of bells. They ring everywhere on this day and symbolize Easter joy. In villages people set nets on the trees and put chocolate eggs in them. Another popular tradition is to give to chocolate coins to live in prosperity till the next Easter.
