The British pop band One Direction has taken the American market by storm following their March 20th US debut.

One Direction’s premier album “Up All Night” topped the Billboard 200, blowing away Adele’s wildly popular album “21” and Bruce Springsteen’s most recent album “Wrecking Ball.”

One Direction, comprised of Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, first formed on the British singing competition “The X Factor.” Guest judge Nicole Scherzinger and judge Simon Cowell recommended the five performers become a single band, and the five solo singers formed a group act.

The group did not win “The X Factor,” but their British debut placed them at number 2 on the UK top selling charts. Since then, they placed in the top 10 in 15 countries.

Though One Direction’s tooth-rotting sweet lyrics are not for everyone, they deliver a unique album with romantic lyrics unlike other popular boy bands, such as Backstreet Boys or N*SYNC.

The album’s first track, “What Makes You Beautiful,” is both fun and heartwarming, and speaks to the insecurities of girls everywhere.

The namesake of the album “Up All Night” is focused on fun rather than conveying a message, but still references pop culture icons such as Katy Perry and lightly ponders over society’s view of entertainment.

One of the album’s best tracks is “Save You Tonight.” It takes the classic, but sappy, “I want to be your savior” type of song and spins it into a realistic story of mutual support and love.

One Direction blends romantic lyrics, fun beats, and interesting commentary on society. One Direction has a lot to contribute to the pop world, and the pop world is ready to welcome them with open arms.
