Jackson Creek Parkway, Monument, Colorado is an accident waiting to happen. The street doesn’t just need a sidewalk, it really requires a sidewalk.

For those of us driving and not driving here at Lewis-Palmer High School, we all have traveled along Jackson Creek Parkway at one time or another. This road is literally a problem, and the state and town need to take action before a serious accident occurs.

The road is a two way street, has a blind turn in the middle of it around a hill, and a very slow speed limit of 40 miles per hour. The major fault of this road is the fact that people like to walk along the road and ride their bicycles along it, creating a huge hazard to themselves and to those that are driving.

When bicyclists are using the road, drivers are forced to go into the other lane in order to give the bicyclists enough room to keep going. If there was a sidewalk along Jackson Creek Parkway, drivers wouldn’t need to fear going around the blind turn, hoping and praying that there isn’t another car there that could possibly hit them.

This is so dangerous that there is no debate. The road truly needs a sidewalk for bicyclists and people who enjoy walking.

As a driver myself, I use this road every day to get to school and to work. Whenever there is a bicyclist and I have to give them room, I’m always fearful that there will be someone in the other lane that won’t stop in time and will hit me.

My main priority at the moment is to keep myself and my passengers safe. To do this I honestly, truly believe that making a sidewalk for Jackson Creek Parkway is the best way to keep drivers safe, as well as bicyclists and people who enjoy walking happy.
